Beauty PR Agency: How We Get Luxury Beauty Brands Talked About

Beauty consulting agency, Discover how We-Curate redefines luxury, beauty, and lifestyle PR strategies. Build credibility, amplify visibility, and drive measurable results with our bespoke consulting services.

A beauty PR agency gets a brand talked about by the people its customers trust: journalists, editors, experts, creators and retail buyers. In 2026 that work has a second audience: the AI assistants that now answer shoppers’ questions, and that build their answers from what others write about a brand. We-Curate runs PR for beauty, luxury and lifestyle brands in the UK, the US and EMEA as part of the brand’s commercial plan, not as a separate campaign. This page explains what beauty PR covers, how it works, how results are measured and what it costs.

Key points

  • Product discovery is moving to creators, social platforms and marketplaces (McKinsey, June 2026). PR now has to reach all of them, not only magazines.
  • In a study of 75,000 brands, mentions of a brand across the web correlated far more with visibility in Google’s AI Overviews (0.664) than backlinks did (0.218) (Ahrefs, 2025).
  • PR works best after the brand’s story, objectives and team are in place. In our CURATE Score™ diagnostic, Amplification is the dimension where most founders score lowest.
  • First coverage usually arrives within weeks; lasting results take three to six months.

What does a beauty PR agency do?

A beauty PR agency earns coverage and recommendations that a brand cannot buy directly. The work covers press relations, founder and expert interviews, product placement in editorial features, launch events, relations with creators, communication around retail launches, and preparation for a crisis. Advertising says what a brand thinks of itself; PR gets others to say it, which is why shoppers, retail buyers and investors trust it more.

For a beauty brand, PR also supports sales directly. Retailers look at a brand’s press and social presence before listing it and expect support once it is on their shelves. Investors check what the market says about a brand before they meet the founder. And AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews rely on what independent sources say when they recommend products.

Why does PR matter more for beauty brands in 2026?

Because the places where people discover beauty products have multiplied. According to McKinsey’s State of Beauty report of June 2026, discovery and purchase are moving toward creators, social platforms and digital marketplaces, while department stores and specialist chains must find new ways to attract and keep shoppers.

That changes the job. A feature in a beauty magazine is still valuable, but on its own it no longer reaches most shoppers. The same story now has to appear, told consistently, in editorial coverage, on creators’ channels, on retailer and marketplace pages, and in the sources AI assistants read. A brand that is covered in one place and absent from the others looks smaller than it is.

It also changes who you compete with. Global beauty should grow about 5% a year to $590 billion by 2030, and new entrants from adjacent categories are gaining ground against incumbents. More brands are competing for the same attention.

How does PR help a beauty brand appear in ChatGPT and Google’s AI answers?

AI assistants recommend brands that other people talk about. In an Ahrefs study of 75,000 brands published in May 2025, the factor most correlated with a brand’s visibility in Google’s AI Overviews was the number of times the brand was mentioned across the web (0.664). Mentions using the brand’s name as link text came second (0.527), and brand search volume third (0.392). Backlinks, the traditional SEO signal, scored only 0.218.

The gap between brands is large. Brands in the top quarter for web mentions averaged 169 mentions in AI Overviews, more than ten times the next quarter down (14). About 26% of the brands studied had no AI Overview mentions at all. These are correlations, not proof of cause, but they point in one direction: being discussed by independent sources is now one of the main routes into AI answers.

In practice, PR for AI search means:

What is the difference between PR, communication and marketing?

PR Communication Marketing
Main goal Earn coverage and recommendations from others Define and tell the brand’s story consistently Drive demand and sales
Main channels Press, experts, creators, events, AI sources Brand identity, website, content, social media Advertising, paid social, retail activation, CRM
Who controls the message Third parties The brand The brand
We-Curate service This page Strategic communication Fractional CMO

The three work best together. In our VOILÀ Method™, they all sit in the final stage, Amplification, which only works once Vision, Objective, Innovation and Leadership are in place. Without those foundations, amplification is, in our own words, “simply expensive noise”.

What does a beauty PR engagement include?

  1. Diagnostic. We score the brand’s current visibility as part of the CURATE Score™, where Amplification is one of six dimensions, and review what press, creators and AI assistants currently say about it.
  2. Messages and proof. We define what the brand stands for, the facts that prove it, and the three or four messages every interview, release and retailer page repeats.
  3. Press materials. A press kit with the brand story, founder biography, product fact sheets, verified claims and high-quality images editors can publish.
  4. Media and creator relations. Targeted outreach to beauty, fashion, lifestyle and business media and to creators whose audience matches the brand’s customers, in the UK, the US and EMEA.
  5. Launch campaigns. Coordinating press, creators, retail partners and events around a product launch, a new retailer or a new market.
  6. Crisis preparation. A written plan for the risks the brand is most exposed to, prepared before anything happens.
  7. Reporting. A fixed set of measures, agreed at the start, including what AI assistants say about the brand.

What do beauty journalists want from a brand?

Facts, access and images. Editors receive far more pitches than they can use, and they choose the ones that make their job easier:

How does PR support a retail launch or a new market?

PR is part of the launch plan, not something added afterwards. Retailers expect a brand to bring customers to their shelves: in our experience, most brands that get listed are delisted within 18 months, often because nothing was invested in activation after the listing. Press, creators and in-store events are what keep a new listing alive. Our guide how to get into Sephora, Space NK and Liberty explains what retailers expect.

A new country needs its own PR plan: different media, different creators, sometimes a different story. When a European skincare brand we worked with saw its US launch blocked, part of the recovery was communication: we re-engaged frustrated retailers with transparency and new timelines, and rebuilt momentum with a market-entry story adapted to US buyers. The brand launched within the quarter, with sell-in 24% above forecast in the first two months (read the case study).

How do you handle a reputational crisis?

The plan is written before the crisis. For each likely risk, such as a product complaint, a disputed claim, a supply problem or a partner controversy, we prepare a holding statement, a named spokesperson and an escalation path. When an issue appears:

  1. Check the facts before saying anything.
  2. Respond first on the channel where the issue started.
  3. Inform retail partners and investors before they read about it elsewhere.
  4. Correct the record in the sources AI assistants use, so that an old problem does not keep appearing in their answers.

Claims are the most common source of trouble in beauty. Wording such as “clean”, “natural” or “safe” should be checked against evidence and regulations before it reaches a press release.

How do you measure beauty PR results?

We agree a fixed set of measures at the start and report against them throughout:

The last two matter more every year: brand search volume and web mentions were among the factors most correlated with AI visibility in the Ahrefs study.

How much does beauty PR cost, and how long does it take?

PR is usually run as a monthly retainer or as part of a fractional marketing role, rather than as a one-off project. Our guide How Much Does a Beauty Consultant Cost? gives typical UK market ranges: a fractional CMO costs £2,500 to £8,000 a month and a full consulting retainer £3,000 to £12,000 a month. A fractional model typically costs 30% to 50% of a permanent hire.

First coverage often arrives within weeks. Lasting results, such as regular coverage, stronger brand recognition and presence in AI answers, usually take three to six months. For how a fractional marketing lead works, read What Is a Fractional CMO for Beauty Brands?

Which PR mistakes do beauty brands make most often?

  1. Starting PR before the story is clear. Coverage amplifies whatever is there, including a confused message.
  2. Pitching products instead of stories. Editors need a reason to write now.
  3. Unverified claims. One disputed claim can outlast years of positive coverage, in the press and in AI answers.
  4. Stopping after the launch. Retail listings and AI visibility both need a steady flow of coverage.
  5. Measuring only clippings. Count what drives business: searches, traffic, sales, retailer interest and AI mentions.
